II. Interview Structure

Three steps are useful in structuring the Set-Up:

Second, staff should notify offenders of the many different sources of information (collateral contacts, criminal records, treatment summaries, etc.) that may be used to verify what is said during the interview. This increases offenders' truthfulness, and it allows staff to return to the issues related to discrepancy between the offender's self-reported information and other information sources.

Finally, staff should encourage offenders to ask any questions or to clarify information disclosed during a prior interview. Offenders should also be aware that notes will be taken during the interview.
